Reclamation
Reclamation recontextualizes art history to tell known stories. Images removed from their origin collage into new worlds.
Sculptural forms augment the collage application. The structures’ exterior distorts space through repetition and variation in image size. Dragon Gate’s five sculptures swim around each other. Their scales -a school of rivers, gods, demons, and koi- replicate natural movement and its namesake story.
Waldeinsamkeit, a reference to personal mythos, is a self portrait collaged into a forest of Big Horn Mountain woods and Northeastern Minnesota wetlands. Oil work and gouache cutouts heighten the collage process by bringing technical skills into the process.
Reclamation is a contemporary interpretation revitalizing salvaged materials to create visual narratives sans language.
