Hanami
March-April 2023 at Bridge To Kyoto, Sakyo-Ku, Kyoto, Japan
Hanami is a shared experience between friends. In this show, it is also a shared experience between nations. Japan gifted Yoshino and Okame trees to New York City’s Central Park in 1912, and New Yorkers have enjoyed the yearly bloom ever since. In the spirit of returning the favor, this show brings the 111 year-old grove home to bloom amongst its siblings. The blankets provided for seating are "Cloud Over Ocean," which represents the expanse between our nations, "Central Park," which conjures where the paintings above are from, and "Kyoto," where the Yoshinos have returned to bloom again. The accompanying video offers a glimpse into New York City’s first sights of spring, while the paintings above preserve the bliss of the fleeting season. Please enjoy the food, drink, and social gathering of the New York Hanami.
